ALBATROSS
ALBATROSS is a musical drama written by Alda Hofferber
based on Samuel Taylor Coleridge's RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER.

Because the play depends heavily on male characters, it is possible that some women will be cast as men.

CHARACTERS

Possibility of doubling (one actor playing more than one part).

SHANTYMAN: Mature lead. A shanty man (old song singing sailor). Narrator... Lot of lines. sings many songs with chorus.It would be good if he is able to play an instrument but not a requirment.

ERICA: Young woman. Bride to be (daughter of Polly and Eric). Small part few lines, group singing.

POLLY: Mature Polly (wife of mature Eric). Very small part. Solo.

JACK, WESLEY AND RALPH: 3 young men (brothers of the groom-to-be). Few lines, possible double as sailors.

ANCIENT MARINER:Mature Eric (husband of Polly, father of Erica). Small part, few lines.

YOUNG POLLY:Young woman. Pregnant wife of Eric. Small part, few lines. Sings with chorus.

ERIC: Young man. Husband on young Polly. First time sailor. Lot of lines, group singing, possible solo.

ROBERT:Young man. Husband of Winifred. Sailor. Lot of lines , group singing.

WINIFRED:Young woman. Robert's wife. Small part, few lines, sings with chorus.

KIP: 8 to 17 years old. Cabin boy.Moderate lines, group singing.

FRAN: Mature woman. Kip's grandmother. Small part, few lines, sings with chorus.

CAPTAIN HOWELL:Mature man. Captain of the good ship Aurora. Moderate lines and group singing.

MR.CAULFIELD:Any age. First mate. Moderate lines, group singing.

DONNY AND BENJY:Any age. Experienced sailors. Lot of lines, group singing.

DEATH: Any age male. Very small part. No singing.Possible chorus/double.

LIFE IN DEATH:Any age female. Death's mate. Small part, some lines. Possible chorus/double.

SEA SPRITES:Any age male and female. Very small parts, some lines.Possible chorus/double.

HERMIT:Mature man.(Ira Samuels, the tailor) Small part, some lines. Possible chorus/double.

CHORUS OF SAILORS:All ages starting at about 15. No lines. Lots of singing.

TOWN FOLK:All ages. No lines. Little singing.
