..The Hofferber Repertory Theatre
presents,
Book by Jeffrey Sweet, Lyrics by Susan Birkenhead and Music by Howard Marren
HRT's March Dinner Theatre at Gregsons'
.....The Hofferber Repertory Theatre will present WHAT ABOUT LUV?, at Gregsons'
restaurant, 1890 Virginia Av, in North Bend: This is an Off Broadway musical first
presented as LOVE in 1984 which starred Nathan Lane; and it was based on the Broadway
play LUV by Murray Schisgal, with book by Jeffrey Sweet, music by Howard Marren, and
lyrics by Susan Birkenhead.
.....In this hilarious HRT musical comedy, Harry Berlin, a despondent suicide wannabe
who is prone to "fits" of various kinds, is prevented from throwing himself off a bridge
by an old, and somewhat forgotten, school chum, Milt Manville, a stock broker who deals
in 2nd hand bric-a-brac as a sideline. Milt is terribly in love and would like to marry
his girlfriend--if his wife would give him a divorce. So maybe if he could get his
wife, Ellen, together with his friend Harry then HE could get together with... But
as everyone knows, the path of true love never did run smooth, and you'd better be
careful what you wish for.
.....The music is touching, funny, pseudo-philosophical and outrageously modern. Songs
include CARNIVAL RIDE, THE CHART, MY LITTLE BROWN BAG, IF HARRY WEREN'T
HERE and many others destined to bring both chuckles and heart glows.
.....Because of adult themes and language (though nothing to
compare with what is on daytime OR primetime TV) HRT has rated this show PG.
